Powell ‘in Charge.’ Views on the Aquarius Plateau...Making Pictures., No. 159. Photographed by Hillers,” on reverse of the mount. Inscribed, “? Harry ? / from his friend E.B. Manley / April 21, 1885,” in pencil on reverse of the mount....This photograph of John Hillers working on the Aquarius Plateau was most likely taken by either his colleague Grove Karl (G.K.) Gilbert or Almon Harris "Prof" Thompson in July 1875. U.S. Geological Survey under John Wesley Powell—is seen in these iconic images working in camp and actively operating his camera
